Titipun Tubthong – Love Transcends Death

The story of Mae Nak, the famous Thai ghost, is one that has been passed down through generations and has become a symbol of unconditional love and devotion. Mae Nak was a beautiful young woman who lived in a small village in Thailand. She was married to a loving husband, Mak, and the two of them were deeply in love. However, tragedy struck when Mae Nak became pregnant and passed away during childbirth.
Despite her death, Mae Nak’s spirit continued to linger in the village, always watching over her husband and her child. Mak was so devoted to Mae Nak that he refused to believe she was dead, and continued to live with her ghost as if she were still alive. Mae Nak, in turn, showed her unwavering love and devotion to Mak, taking care of him and their child even after her death.
The villagers were initially frightened by Mae Nak’s ghost, but as they saw how she took care of her family, they came to accept her presence. She became a symbol of unconditional love and devotion, and her story has been told and retold throughout the years, inspiring countless people to remember the power of love even in the face of death.
Mae Nak’s ghost remains a beloved figure in Thai culture, and her story serves as a reminder that love can conquer even the greatest of obstacles. Her unconditional love for her husband and child is a testament to the strength and power of love, and an inspiration to all of us to hold on to the ones we love, even beyond this world.

And in this art form, Mae-Nak is accompanied by two other Thai ghosts who also have lore about unconditional love: Nang-Ta-Kien and Kra-Sue.

Titipun Tubthong – The Multiverse of Venus

The ‘Multiverse of Venus’ is a captivating and thought-provoking piece of art that takes us on a journey through the ages, exploring the different interpretations of the goddess of love and beauty. The piece features four iconic Venus figures, each representing a different era of art and culture.

Starting from the left, we have the Venus of Brassempouy, a small ivory figurine dating back to the Upper Paleolithic period. This ancient sculpture captures the essence of feminine beauty and grace, with its delicate features and flowing hair.

Alexandru Crisan – Moroi Metabolism

Moroi Metabolism

Surfacing from Romanian folklore via escapist cinema, the term Moroi was appropriated as an alternative “denomination” for vampires. However, the Slavic lexicon points out to the můra – mòra etymological nexus, with direct reference to nightmares, only to develop subsequently an archetypal transition towards a more palatable form of a succubus. It is a rather comforting contrast to the Romanian incipient interpretation, which preserved for centuries the even more disturbing meaning of an unbaptized dead child that haunts his own mother in the dead of night… Therefore, the Moroi phantasm tries to encompass as many neuroses as possible, from infanticide anxieties to sexual masochism, branching out with each storytelling leap, such as to test our fears du jour… No matter how much fright one might crave, the truth rests with those who take a martially piercing look within themselves, in the attempt to exorcize their own disquietudes. When we struggle to metabolize our own fears, to turn them into nurturing identity reformation, no demons can feast on our souls…

Akihiro_369 – Tenmoku

I was attracted by the mysterious aesthetics reflected in the most beautiful and mysterious tea bowl in the history of ceramics in the world (called “Yohentenmoku / 曜変天目”).

I found the breathtaking beauty of the “universe” in the scenery within the curvy tea bowl and this experience drove me to somehow express this impression in the flat world. After expressing it on canvas at first, I attempted it on copperplate this time – this is how “Tenmoku” was born.

The work is based on the viscosity printing (Hayter method) invented by S.W. Hayter, the founder of Atelier 17, an experimental print studio in Paris that pioneered the art world in the last century.

世界の陶芸史上でも最も美しく、そして最大の謎に包まれた幻の茶碗 （曜変天目）に映し出された神秘的な美しさに惹かれました。

茶碗の景色に息を飲むような美しさ「宇宙」を観ました。 この感動を何とかして平面の世界で表現してみたい衝動に駆られ制作しました。

当初はキャンバスで表現しましたが、今回銅版画で試みてみました。前世紀世界をリードしたパリの実験的版画工房アトリエ17の創始者S.W,ヘイターが考案した一版多色刷り（ヘイター法）による作品です。

Kusan – Kusan

The personification of the sword, which is said known as the “life of the Japanese samurai”. Although this is a sword called “獣刀 (Juto)” as it resembles the shape of beasts, I created this work based on the idea of Japanese sword which is held by the samurai.
